Lincoln Building, 16 Wally’s Walk
MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY
Originally the Chancellery for the University, it was designed by award-winning and renowned architect Colin Madigan and built-in 1967 in a true brutalist style. By 2018 the building had reached the end of life and needed a total overhaul or demolition. The decision to retain and respect the original design intent and preserve the bespoke architectural form of the existing building, while needing to refurbish and revitalise the existing decaying façade and cladding presented a huge challenge. The internal floor-to-ceiling height was low by todays standard and that in itself required innovative thinking. The completed result has been overwhelmingly positively received by the community.
The refurbishment and conversion of the building included the ground floor of the Lincoln being converted to seven food and beverage outlets (approximately 507sqm), with office space for University Administration use, equal to an A-Grade office facility on the upper two floors (approximately 2,500sqm). It was designed and built to a 5 Star Green Star rating.
